Remove silicate primer from a window pane – Practical report

A customer approached us with a classic problem: silicate primer on a window pane – stubborn, milky residues, and normal cleaners proving ineffective. Here's how we solved it.

The Initial Situation

After painting, the customer had silicate primer on the glass pane. The residues had already dried and left a milky film – typical for silicate primer on glass.

Our Solution: Step by Step

  1. First Step: Applied HATOCH® Primer Remover SPECIAL to the affected areas
  2. Dwell Time: 5 minutes for dried silicate primer
  3. Wipe Off: With a soft cloth – most residues were removed
  4. Milky Residues: For remaining milky spots, the Unger Trim 10 Blade Holder was used – at a 45° angle, carefully
  5. Aftertreatment: Metal polish (e.g., Autosol) with circular motions for a crystal-clear result

The Result

The window pane was clear again – no scratches, no film. The key: chemistry first, mechanics only as support.

Important Insight: Silicate Primer Needs Patience

Silicate primer is the most stubborn type. Sometimes multiple passes are necessary. Never scratch with pressure – that leaves permanent scratches on glass.
