Removing primer – The substrate is crucial
"Deep soil cannot be removed" – almost everyone believes that.
That's true – but not always.
The crucial point is not the product, but the substrate .
The underground decision tree
✓ Non-absorbent surfaces = primer is removable
- Glass: Windows, conservatories, glass facades, mirrors
- Plastic: Window frames, window sills, PVC surfaces
- Metal: radiators, door frames, railings
- Tiles & Ceramics: Bathroom, Kitchen, Floors
- Painted surfaces: doors, furniture, sealed surfaces
→ This is where HATOCH® deep primer remover works
✗ Absorbent surfaces = deep primer is permanent
- Untreated plaster: Interior and exterior plaster without sealing.
- Concrete: Raw, unsealed concrete
- Plasterboard: Drywall, Gypsum board
- Porous materials: natural stone, untreated wood
→ Here, the primer is permanent – removal is not possible.
Why sanding with deep primer is almost always a mistake
Sanding seals the surface. The primer then penetrates deeper, and the chance of removal is gone.
Anyone who sands before checking the substrate will irreversibly worsen their problem.
The 3 most common mistakes when removing deep primer
1. Incorrect substrate
On absorbent surfaces (plaster, concrete) removal is impossible – the primer has penetrated permanently.
2. Sanding as a first step
It seals the surface and makes chemical removal impossible.
3. Aggressive Chemistry
Solvent-based products damage plastics, seals and coatings – often irreversibly.
This is how HATOCH® deep primer remover works
Solvent-free. Biological. Residue-free.
- Precise application: Apply directly to the affected areas.
- No harsh chemicals: Gentle on materials and health
- Reversible: Removes primer without damaging the surface.
- Made in Germany: Developed for professional use

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I remove primer from plaster?
No. On absorbent surfaces (plaster, concrete, drywall), the primer has permanently penetrated. Removal is not possible.
Does looping work?
No – sanding will only worsen the problem. It seals the surface, allowing the primer to penetrate deeper. After that, chemical removal is no longer possible.
How can I tell if my surface is absorbent?
Simple test: Spray water onto the surface. Is it absorbed immediately? → Absorbent (removal not possible). Does it bead up? → Non-absorbent (removal possible).
Which type of primer was used in my case?
You often don't know this – that's why we recommend the SPECIAL formula , which works with all common types of deep primer.
The problem is not the depth of the ground – but the knowledge.
Make the right decision – before it's too late.
